Pink Purple Dahlia

Beautiful Dahlia in my balcony garden. These beauties are seasonal and grow from tubers. They come so cheap since they are seasonal. A pot in Gurgaon costs only Rs.20/- in retail price .These can grow all though the year in a city like Bangalore but in Gurguan/Delhi they are a spring phenomenon .

I was reading some place that to get maximum sized flowers, some of these buds should be pinched out. If only one bud is allowed to develop, the largest possible flower will be produced. It takes about 6 weeks from the time buds are removed until another series of buds is formed and about three weeks longer for the buds to open.

Mexican Tuberose (रजनीगंधा)

The heavenly smelling Mexican tuberose shot at home .

Rajanigandha means “The Fragrance of the Night”. It is a flower that is both mythical and magical, its nectar said by some to have special powers and its scent magical and even when the flower is wilting away the smell remains. They also last long on flower arrangements for nearly a week if water is changed regularly .Tuberoses are a popular flower in floral arrangements and their scent is used to produce perfumes the world over. This is a perennial flower available and flowering all through the year.

We always get this and keep it in the bedroom for its heavenly Smell

Empire State Building, from Close by

February 14th, 2009

This shot I had taken when I travelled to NY in 2005.The present site of the Empire State Building was first developed as the John Thomson Farm in the late 18th century. At the time, a stream ran across the site, emptying into Sunfish Pond, located a block away. The block was occupied by the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in the late 19th century, and was frequented by The Four Hundred, the social elite of New York.

The Empire State Building is a 102-story Art Deco skyscraper in New York City at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. Its name is derived from the nickname for the state of New York. It stood as the world’s tallest building for more than forty years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center’s North Tower was completed in 1972. Following the destruction of the World Trade Center in 2001, the Empire State Building again became the tallest building in New York City and New York State.
The Empire State Building has been named by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The building and its street floor interior are designated landmarks of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, and confirmed by the New York City Board of Estimate. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1986.In 2007, it was ranked number one on the List of America’s Favorite Architecture according to the AIA. The building is owned and managed by W&H Properties.
The Empire State Building is the second tallest skyscraper in the Americas (surpassed only by the Sears Tower) and the 9th tallest in the World. It is also the 4th tallest freestanding structure in the Americas and the 12th tallest in the world.
